This Week in the World of Books



Lots of awards and finalists were announced this week. The three Story Prize Finalists were announced; NBCC announced it’s 30 finalists for the best books of 2013 as well as awarded A Constellation of Vital Phenomena the first ever John Leonard Prize; Mystery Writers of America announced it’s list of 2014 Edgar Awards nominees; and Sinead Morrissey wons the TS Eliot Prize.

The Digital Book World Conference is in full swing. At a panel on Wednesda booksellers, librarians, and editors from around the country discussed the future of bookstores and libraries. Among other topics, they talked about the role of bookstores and libraries in community building and how connecting with humanity is a large part of what books are  about.

Japan’s Parliament will begin to implement taxes in 2015 for overseas servers. This means customers will now be charges sales tax when they shop…
