Richard Ford Meets Stephen Colbert

Richard Ford appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show a few years ago to promote his novel, Canada.

Colbert, as only he can, talks about how offended he is that the novel isn’t named America.

It’s a pretty humorous exchange between the two about Canada, guns, writing, and being famous. Colbert’s awesome, and Richard Ford does an outstanding job of staying with him the whole time.

Mansfield su Joyce e Ulysses

Devo dire due parole su Joyce. Ho riletto il Portrait e nel complesso mi sembra ottimo. Compreremo una copia di Ulysses. Joyce è immensamente importante (se solo Pound non avesse detto la stessa cosa!). In passato avevo trovato qualcosa di così repellente nella sua opera che avevo trovato difficoltà a leggerla. Mi sconvolge imbattermi in vocaboli ed espressioni da cui mi ritraggo nella vita. Ma ora mi appare come il nuovo romanzo: la ricerca del Vero è a tal punto la cosa così importante che uno deve vincere le avversioni secondarie. Sono trascurabili. 28 dicembre 1921
